Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality! A term, which is core of today’s Tec-world. Cyberspace (anything and everything to do with cyber be it space, life, sex and what not), our thoughts for future (the dreams aspirations we have, thing we work to achieve. The things are not there so in a way they are virtual till we realize it), stories (fiction for example), Math’s (yes Mathematics, the same subject people say is very much real has given us the term iota or i. i=square root of -1. a value that does not exist. But math’s has very conveniently used this to solve so many problems and helped physics, chemistry, architecture and god know how many more subjects), Psychology (not just that, but the study itself, is based on assumptions and general trends and hence some what virtual and some what real.)

I mean when you start looking at this term and try to apply it to any place you will find some thing that is not present and is as good as reality. Look at today’s games for instance. Start playing games like NFS, Commando, Half life and many more, and suddenly you will be a part of the game. Every thing will have its own real perspective. Sites like “second life” give a person a second life as it says. It is as real as it can be. And still its absolutely virtual.

Science has its own share of virtual reality. World started form big bang (there are people who think otherwise) but the question is what was before that fateful big bang?

Even money seems like virtual reality. Just take a look at the way transactions happen. Take example of a simple transfer, of say Rs. 10,000/- online or by a cheque, from one bank to another. All the time no one gets to see the money. But it switches hands quickly. What about share market?

Some times I do get a feeling that I am a part of Matrix. You all must have seen the movie. It was complete science fiction. But it had some uncanny resemblance to reality. Reality, that didn’t exist! Or did it?

We ourselves create a virtual world around us. Each and every one has his/her own world of fictitious characters, dreams, lives that we all would like to live subconsciously. This is not just a case of psychological disorder but a very normal phenomenon.
Think about it. Are we (what we are), our emotions (what we show to others), our thoughts (what we think all the times about people, situations etc) real or just Virtual Reality?

  1. Vituality in spaces like gaming, banking etc etc is not an issue of such a concern to me.
But the VR in cyberspace has some moving implications...
It is as though cyberspace provides a dream-like, almost hallucinatory, configuration of our perception: becoming a place for losing the self, screen for the projection of our latent desires and interests.
I was quite unaware of the fact that people go to the extent of getting married and having a second life virtually!!
With a click of a finger and a stretch of the imagination, you can become whoever you want. Welcome to Second Life.
